Wedding of Gerard Mulcahy and Ann Danaher

I hope that whoever got here by searching for the genealogy of Gerard Mulcahy and Ann Danaher comes back to find their wedding announcement! I just came across it in the Brooklyn Eagle this weekend. It was published 15 June 1937.

Their wedding picture, from the reception at the Hotel St. George was sent to me by Betty and John several months ago.

Nana and Papa (Veronica Mulvaney Mulcahy and Joseph Mulcahy) are seated at the "head" of the table, center and center-left as you look at the photograph. To the right of them: Margaret (Mulcahy) and Hugh Hennessy; Mary (Mulcahy) and Tony Boles; Loretta (Kelly) and John Mulcahy; the bride and groom, Ann (Danaher) and Gerard Mulcahy; one of Ann's sisters. Standing behind the bride and groom are another of Ann's sisters and her husband. Going in the other direction, starting from the Nana's left, are Vincent and Alice (Fox) Mulcahy; Catherine (Foley) and Matthew Mulcahy; Masie (Dardell) and Michael Mulcahy; and then three of Ann's cousins. The only Mulcahy sibling not present is James. I don't know which of the Danaher sisters is the Katherine listed in the announcement as "the bride's only attendant."

Ann Danaher and Gerard Mulcahy were my grandparents. My name is Patricia Mulcahy. My great grandfather Mike Mulcahy had three bars in Red Hook. You can still see his old house from the BQE. Does anyone know how he died? That's the big mystery...

Patricia - Great to hear from you! Please send me an e-mail at kathleen.scarlett.ohara@gmail.com - I'd love to be in touch, and I'd love to hear what you know about Mike Mulcahy and his bars - I've heard lots of rumors and hearsay about them!

According to his death certificate, Michael Mulcahy died of a stroke. I've posted a transcript of the certificate here: http://whereyoucamefrom.blogspot.com/2009/03/january-20-1917.html, and I have the image of the actual document scanned, if you're interested in seeing it.

Came across this site by accident but noticed by the posts by Dennis and Jim Mulcahy. Not sure whether they would remember me but my parents, Jim and Gertrude Ryan Stewart, had the cabana two doors from Vinny and Alice on West Court in Breezy Point. Like Vinny and Alice, my mother was from the parish of St. Mary Star of the Sea in South Brooklyn and I can remember many of those summer nights at Breezy ending with the singing of "The Bells of St. Mary's".
I believe Alice was a classmate of my mother's older sister, Mae Ryan Mackey, and the Mulcahy's lived on Luqueer Street where my Maternal grandmother's family, the Hickeys also lived. Have researched my uncle, John Mackey (Huntington Street and Garnet Street) some and his parents were from Murroe and Cappamore, County Limerick - believe I came across the Mulcahys coming from that general area of Limerick as well but might be mistaken.
I do Irish set dancing and occasionally bump into one of your cousins, Ken Mulcahy.
Anyway, just nice seeing Vin and Alice's names - they were lovely people.
Best Regards,
Ed Stewart

Ed,

Thanks for visiting! I e-mailed Denis and Jim Mulcahy to make sure they saw your comment. The Mulcahys are in fact from Limerick, from Pallasgreen, which I believe isn't far from Cappamore.

It's great to see all the comments about our roots in Brooklyn. I'm now living in New Paltz, NY now but still go back to Flatbush to visit my wife's mother (East 31st and Glenwood Road). I can be contacted on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/#!/bill.mulcahy1
