I have been looking for this part of my family in Ireland for a few years. Purely by coincidence, my wife and I were planning a trip to Ireland in September/October and were going to stop in ancestral towns up the road near Thurles, then Cashel and spend the night near Mitchelstown. We will definitely make the short drive to Pallas. And if we bump into anyone with the above names, we'll be sure to say Hello from America.
John Jaeckel, Columbus, OH (I am on Ancestry.com as well as MyHeritage)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08730191638562225511noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242319094148803910.post-41976240859294280912022-02-04T15:15:41.355-05:002022-02-04T15:15:41.355-05:00Hi,

Limerick who emigrated there in the late 1920's and married Katherine Danaher (Nicker). His father was John and mother Alice Cleary. I've been researching our family history for some time so happy to share what I have. Look forward to hearing from any of the Mahony or Danaher clan who are interested.
Annette BennettAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242319094148803910.post-6887061009647139762021-04-07T00:01:47.119-04:002021-04-07T00:01:47.119-04:00I am a Mulcahy . Mayo and NYC. At that time, Connacht was a very bilingual area. People predominantly spoke Irish in their daily lives, but official business, including church records, were recorded in English. Irish immigrants to the US continued to be bilingual for another generation, although English quickly became the language used in the home. I haven't figured out how, but I've often wondered if translating names and nicknames from Irish to English was the reason for all this Judy/Julia confusion. One interesting thing to keep in mind is that there is no "J" letter or sound in Irish. "J" would have been pronounced as either "L" or "SH," such as Seamus (James). I've been learning Irish and it's very interesting how the grammar and pronunciation continue to effect the "English" spoken by Irish people today. For example, ask someone with a good Irish Brogue to say "three" and what you'll hear is something close to "tree." Just as Irish has no "J" sound, it also has no "TH" sound.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10344558323497329025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242319094148803910.post-42388306508182836332020-08-03T07:33:47.221-04:002020-08-03T07:33:47.221-04:00Julia is derived from latin, its from a old Roman f...Julia is derived from latin, its from a old Roman family nameAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15333548602508635301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242319094148803910.post-74015746968910393822020-06-28T21:48:50.539-04:002020-06-28T21:48:50.539-04:00I wish my Irish ancestors had opened a bar in Broo...I wish my Irish ancestors had opened a bar in Brooklyn!
